About Rachel Peters

Rachel Peters creates hand-built ceramic sculptures through coiling, working with grogged stoneware to make both abstract and figurative forms. Her work comes from a deep personal need to make. Clay is where she processes the things that are hardest to carry, and what comes out the other side are forms that feel whole, still, and completely at ease in themselves.

Her forms lean towards curves, soft edges, and surfaces that invite touch, with an emphasis on form and texture rather than decoration. Surfaces are left unglazed, preserving the raw texture of the clay and the honesty of the material. People consistently tell her that her work gives them a sense of calm. She has come to understand that this is not a coincidence.
